VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Roland: Let's have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson.
Hala: The first word/phrase we’ll look at is....
مـَعـَـنـْدُكـوش شـورْبــِة عدس ؟
Roland: Which means don't you have lentil soup?
using the negated form to ask for something is a popular form, it would be the same if we used the non negated form, but this is to draw more attention and emphasize that this is important or little different from the other requests.
Hala: So it is used and you will hear it even when other people are addressing you
Roland: Our next phrase is
Hala:
عايـْزين طـَبـَق ولا إتـْـنـين؟
Roland: This means do you want a plate or two ?
here the question was " a plate or two ", the waitress could have simply said " one or two ", but this is a way to confirm the order
Hala: and in the same sentence, we also had " وَلّا, wallā), which means " or ", this is the word used in a question forms, its never used in any other form like " i want tea or coffee, I like this or that), it is only in question form. The other one will be " أَو, ʾaū), so always remember, in a question with choices , always use " wallā ".

Lesson focus

Roland: The focus of this lesson is the verb “to have,” you plural and we.
Hala: عندكو سلطة لبناني؟ "andukū salaṭh libnānī ? عندنا سلطة خضرا. "andinā salaṭh ḫaḍrh.
Roland: "Do you have Lebanese salad? - we have green salad"
Hala: Now we study the rest of V.to have, the plural forms of " you ", and we, just like we have done before , we will take "and” and add " kū " to it, and this will form "عَنْدُكو, ʿandukū, "you have”.
to form " we have ", we will just add " nā”, which will give us "ʿandinā ", and that will mean "we have) .
Roland: do you still remember how to say " you -plural - don’t have , we don’t have " ?
Hala: That will be مَعَنْدِكوش,”maʿandikūš” ",maʿandināšمَعَنْدِناش.
Now, we will have a "review over adjectives " "طَبَق صُغَيَّر, ṭabaʾ ṣuġayyar) which is a small plat.
Just like we explained before, Adjectives always follow the the noun, and must agree with it " gender and No " .

Outro

Roland: That just about does it for today.
Roland: Okay, some of our listeners already know about the most powerful tool on ArabicPOD101.com....
Hala: line-by-line audio.
Roland: The perfect tool for rapidly improving listening comprehension...
Hala: by listening to lines of the conversation again and again.
