Hala: Egypt is a very big country, with a lot of dialects inside it, and small differences as well sometimes, what might be correct in one place, could be strange. |
Roland: In another, but not wrong in another, so, if your speaking the common dialect, very few people might try to correct you into speaking their dialect of some other place in Egypt. |
Hala: but if its the other way around, and you used a word common in a small city, but not to everyone, people will automatically correct you, and explain this difference to you, so the best way to learn Arabic, is to speak it with people, and not worry about any mistakes! |

Roland: Let's have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson. |
Hala: The first word/phrase we’ll look at is.... |
Hala: وِ الكُتُبْ دِي.(wi al-kutub diī.) |
here, no question words were used, but the meaning was not finished as well, so it gives the meaning of a question, specially when using the raising intonation , the meaning for this sentence is ( and these books ? ), the answer here could be different a number of different answers, so it really depends on the context to give the right answer. |
Roland: That's right, and point number 2? |
Hala: We had a sentence here that said دي قواميس عربي أنكليزي, "dī qāwāmīs ʿarabī ʾinglīzī bas", "These are Arabic-English dictionaries only". The word "bas" here was used as only, while in other lessons we learned it as "but". It has two meanings, "but" and "only". Just to finish up with this one, Roland, do you know what is the third meaning? |

Roland: The focus of this lesson is (The Demonstrative pronoun,plural ) دول طلاب, (dūl ṭullāb) these are student " |
Hala: When using the plural form of humans like saying student, girls, employees, teachers... we have to use the demonstrative pronoun to go with it, which is ( dūl ) |
Roland: meaning "these are" or "those are". |
Hala: Now let's move to the Demonstrative pronoun but using it with non human plurals or inanimate plurals |
Hala: When dealing with non human plurals, we always use the single feminine tool for that |
Roland: So if we want to say ( these are books), or ( those are dictionaries ) we will say |
Hala: ( دي كتب, dī kutub) , and ( دي قواميس, dī qāwāmīs ), this rule is applied with all cases of inhuman plurals, and also when it comes to using adjectives with these plurals |
Roland: for example to say ( these are good books ) - ( دي كتب كويسة, dī kutub kuwayyish ), feminine tool and the feminine adjective. |
