| Nora: Talking on the phone in a foreign language can be very intimidating and confusing at first, but it's okay to tell the person on the other side that you are a foreigner, and ask them to speak slowly. You could say momken tetkallem berraahah shwayya? meaning "can you speak a bit slower?" People will gladly do that, and will probably try to add in some English. It's important to start the conversation in Arabic, however, to give the impression that you are willing to make the conversation work to get the information that you want. |
