[سلام (salam) ] Welcome to Arabic weekly words, it’s Chaima again. Let’s find out this week’s topic. Nice, giving a compliment. We have one word for that in Arabic [المجاملة (al mujamala]. |
First word is |
1. |
[غزالة] or [غزال] for female. |
It means sweet and Darija word would be [ghzâl ] or [ghzâla]. |
It’s used to describe like person physically or just the way they behave(0:00:23), just the way they are like |
هاديك البنت غزالة بزاف |
hâdîk lbint ghzâla bzzâf.. |
that girl is so sweet. |
It could mean that she is beautiful physically or she is beautiful as a person. Well depending on the context, it means different things. |

[أنيقة] or [أنيق]. |
anîq /anîqa |
It means elegant and we have the same word in Darija. |
ماماها أنيقة بزاف، كيعجبني كيفاش كتلبس |
mâmâhâ ’anîqa bzzâf, kayʻjibni kifâsh katilbs. |
Her mother is so elegant. I like how she dresses. |

[ضريفة] or [ضريف] it means nice and |
in Darija, we say [Driyyaf ] or [Driyfa] |
هاديك الأستاذة عزيزة علي بزاف،هي ضريفة |
hadîk l'ustadha ʻzîza ʻliya bzzaf, hiya Driyfa.. |
I like that teacher so much. She is so nice. |

زوين \ زوين ة for female and |
it means beautiful In Fusa or in Darija, we use the word [zwîn ] or [zwîna] and [zwîn / zwîna] is not only used to describe like people physically like beautiful, it’s used in so many different ways. |
هاديك الممتلة زوينة بزاف |
hadîk lmumtila zwîna bzzâf.. |
That actor is so beautiful. |

ذكي \ ذكي ة means intelligent. |
In Darija, we say [dhkiy ] or [dhkiyya]. |
The difference is the [ذ] and the [د]. |
Most words that have [ذ] in Fusa, we just say [take off the dot] and say [د] because it’s easier. |
So in Fusa, instead of [دكي(dhkiy)] we would say |
هاديك البنت دكية بزاف،غيكون عنده ا |
مستقبل زوين |
hadîk lbint dhkiyya bzzâf, ghaykûn ʻindha mustaqbal zwîn.. |
That girl is so intelligent or so smart. She is going to have a great future. |
