Alisha: This is Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 23. In this lesson you'll learn how to overreact like an Egyptian.
Alisha: Being able to react in a foreign language when you are in shock is no easy feat. Practice these expressions to accomplish that feat!
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Sherif: يا خرابي (yaā ḫarābī)
Sherif: يالهوي (yalahwī)
Sherif: يانهار أبيض (yānhār ʾabyaḍ)
Sherif: يادي النيله (yadī el-nīlah)
Alisha: Sherif, what's our first expression?
Sherif: يا خرابي (yaā ḫarābī)
Alisha: literally meaning "my ruins." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "everything is ruined."
Sherif: [SLOW] يا خرابي [NORMAL] يا خرابي
Alisha: Listeners, please repeat.

Alisha: Use this slang expression when you want to express that you are devastated over something.
Alisha: Now let's hear an example sentence.

Alisha: literally meaning "my negligence." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "oh my gosh."
