Becky: Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Social Media Phrases Season 1, Lesson 14 - Talking About Your Baby.
Becky: Hi everyone, I'm Becky.
Amr: And I'm Amr.
Becky: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in Egyptian Arabic about a picture of a smiling baby. Mona plays with her baby, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment:
Amr: تفتكرو هيطلع شبه مين؟ (teftekrū hayeṭlaʿ šabah mīn?)
Becky: Meaning - "Who do you think he will take after?" Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.

Amr: (SLOW) تفتكرو هيطلع شبه مين؟ (teftekrū hayeṭlaʿ šabah mīn?) (Regular) تفتكرو هيطلع شبه مين؟ (teftekrū hayeṭlaʿ šabah mīn?)
Becky: Let's break this down. First is an expression meaning "Who do you think."

Becky: This expression is also an idiom. This verb+noun combination literally means "will go up like someone," but it actually means to take after somebody. Listen again - "He will take after" is...
Amr: (SLOW) هيطلع شبه مين؟ (hayeṭlaʿ šabah mīn?) (REGULAR) هيطلع شبه مين؟ (hayeṭlaʿ šabah mīn?)
