Becky: Must-Know Egyptian Arabic Social Media Phrases Season 1, Lesson 7 - Getting Bored.
Becky: Hi everyone, I'm Becky.
Amr: And I'm Amr.
Becky: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in Egyptian Arabic about being bored. Amir gets bored at home, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment:
Amr: قاعد زهقان. حد عايز يخرج؟ (ʾāʿed zahʾān. ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?)
Becky: Meaning - "Sitting here all bored. Is anyone doing anything today?" Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.

سيف: تيجي نروح القهوة نشيش؟ (tīǧī nrūḥ el-ʾahwah nešayyeš?)
ملك: اقعد ارتاح شوية يا حبيبي. (ʾuʾʿud ertāḥ šwayyah yā ḥabībī.)

Becky: "Why don't we go to the cafe and smoke some shisha?"
ملك: اقعد ارتاح شوية يا حبيبي. (ʾuʾʿud ertāḥ šwayyah yā ḥabībī.)
Becky: "Sit back and relax for a bit, dear."

Becky: Listen again to Amir's post.

Becky: Let's break this down. First is an expression meaning "sitting here all bored."
Amr: قاعد زهقان. (ʾāʿed zahʾān.)
Becky: The expression "sitting" in Egyptian means "doing something for a long interval of time." So, Amir is not necessarily sitting. Listen again - "Sitting here all bored" is...

Becky: All together, "Sitting here all bored. Is anyone doing anything today?"
Amr: قاعد زهقان. حد عايز يخرج؟ (ʾāʿed zahʾān. ḥad ʿāyez yuḫruǧ?)
COMMENTS
Becky: In response, Amir's friends leave some comments.
Becky: His girlfriend, Mona, uses an expression meaning - "Let's go out for a while."
