POST CONVERSATION BANTER |
Roland: Most of the hotels will ask you to pay in foreign currency, euro or dollars, very few 3 or 4 star hotels or hostels, will give you the price in Egyptian pounds. |
Hala: This is done in order to help tourists better judge the price and decide. |
Roland: It is not a problem if you only have Egyptian pounds, they will give you the equivalent in that currency and tell you the price in your own as well. |
Hala: It's sometimes better to have a travel agency help you find a hotel that matches your budget and meets your needs. |

VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE |
Roland: Let's have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson. |
Hala: The first word/phrase we’ll look at is.... |
Hala: فيه فِطار, لَكِن فِيش غَدا “fīh fiṭār, lakin fiīš ġadā”. |
Roland: Its very easy to get more information about things or places, we use the simple "is there", and would be used as ( there is as well ) , this is very effective, as you will be using it in many situations, I know i have used it a lot! |
Hala: As we have mentioned before, there is no verb to be in Arabic, therefore, raising the intonation will form the question. If we do not raise the intonation it becomes a statement. "there is". The same thing applies to the second part of the phrase "there isn't". |
Roland: So changing the intonation of your voice, will make it "isn't there"? Let's hear it again from Hala. |
Hala: فِيّه “fiyyh”, مافِيّش “māfiyyš”. |
Roland: our second vocabulary is |
Hala: إتّفَضَّل "ʾittfaḍḍal" and إتّفَضَّلي "ʾittfaḍḍalī ", and these are 2 Extremely important words, in both masculine and feminine forms, as we have seen in the conversation, it was used as |
Roland: here you are, in a polite and very professional way |
Hala: But we also use it in different situations, if you're inviting someone in, you say إتّفَضَّل "ʾittfaḍḍal", or inviting someone to join you for a drink or something to eat, its the same, if your telling someone to sit ( please have a seat ), you just use إتّفَضَّل "ʾittfaḍḍal" , also, if a person is asking for something that takes the form of request ( can i speak, may i leave ....), and you approve, you will just say |
Roland: إتّفَضَّل "ʾittfaḍḍal" |
Hala: And for a woman |
Roland: إتّفَضَّلي "ʾittfaḍḍalī " |
Finally in a brief but very important situation like when giving the money to the cashier or the waitress, it is very polite and friendly. |
Lesson focus
|
Hala: The focus of this lesson is using "is there" and "there isn't" |
Roland: فيه فِطار, لَكِن فِيش غَدا “fīh fiṭār, lakin fiīš ġadā”. "is there breakfast and lunch ?" |
Hala: As we can see here, because the verb "to be" doesn't exist and isn't used in this case, the same word can be used for both a question and a statement and the same applies to the negated form. |
Roland: That’s right. |
Outro
|
Roland: That just about does it for today. |
Roland: Before we go, we want to tell you about a way to drastically improve your pronunciation. |
Hala: The voice recording tool... |
Roland: Yes, the voice recording tool in the premium learning center... |
Hala: Record your voice with a click of a button, |
Roland: and then play it back just as easily. |
Hala: So you record your voice, and then listen to it. |
Roland: Compare it to the native speakers... |
Hala: And adjust your pronunciation! |
Roland: This will help you improve your pronunciation fast! |
Hala: شكرا ، مع السلامة |
Roland: شكرا ، مع السلامة |
